DecorLAB is an installation for Het Nieuwe Instituut / The New Institute in Rotterdam. It enables participants to transform their hand-drawn images and patterns into a projected wallpaper.
The installation was part of the exhibition ‘1:1 Sets for Erwin Olaf’ and the parallel exhibition ‘Bekleidung’, both based around interior design, lighting, and textures. Participants sit down at a large table to create their patterns and digitize them, after which the pattern gets projected onto a large wall, where they can fine-tune the pattern by scaling, rotating and turning on or off a series of virtual lights.
The installation uses a PC running Unity and a Node.js server, two Raspberry Pi’s with cameras attached and multiple iPads for input and feedback.
